Widnes Town Football Club has been set up to be the senior football team for the Widnes community and local area. Instead of trying to take over existing teams or insist upon being the only football club in the area, we are keen to work with all existing junior clubs to provide a football pathway for when players reach sixteen years old.
In addition to representing existing clubs until 18 years old, our aspiration is to provide 16+ education that will allow players to train full time whilst also getting continuing education. At 18 / 19 years old, our aspiration is to have University partnerships in place to allow players to go on and progress to University or continue further education in Widnes whilst representing our U-23 teams. All of our academy teams will play fixtures on Wednesday’s, allowing player the opportunity to get further game time on the weekends through dual registrations.
Ultimately, this community approach to developing talent will allow player to progress naturally with various possible landing spots once their youth football journey comes to an end.
Finally, a cohesive approach to football in Widnes will allow everyone to work together to generate funds to ultimately reduce the cost of playing football. Initially, we hope to off support to children who cannot afford to play football currently with the ultimate goal of making football free for all Children, through equipment, pitches and coaches being facilitated by the Vikings Trust. The reality of doing this depends on how well the Trust is supported throughout the year through fundraising initiatives and events.
